Style Module 1 – Foundations of Fashion & Style
Lessons 1–6
Style is not created in isolation — it is shaped by history, culture, social change, and human psychology. Module 1 takes students back to the roots of fashion and personal style to build a strong conceptual foundation for professional image consulting.
In this module, students explore how style has evolved across time, how fashion movements influence modern dressing, and why certain silhouettes, details, and aesthetics endure while others fade. Understanding this historical context allows consultants to recognise patterns, archetypes, and visual language that still inform how clients dress today.
You’ll learn how fashion history intersects with identity, status, gender expression, and self-perception, giving you the insight needed to guide clients without imposing trends or personal bias. This module introduces the idea that style is a form of communication — and that every garment sends a message.
Crucially, Module 1 establishes the professional mindset of an image consultant. Rather than “styling outfits,” you’ll begin learning how to interpret a client and translate their goals into visual outcomes. You’ll explore the difference between fashion, style, and image, and why understanding that distinction is essential for long-term client success.
By the end of this module, students have a clear understanding of why structured style systems matter, how to analyse rather than guess, and how to honour individuality while working within professional frameworks.
This module sets the tone for the entire course — thoughtful, informed, and grounded in expertise.
